Community pharmacy leadership is essential at multiple layers within healthcare systems to facilitate change and drive quality improvement. Following a pilot project in Lambeth, we are investing in community pharmacy leadership by: expanding the leadership roles across all of South East London, providing structured leadership development training, establishing a service activity dashboard, engaging with system and PCN leaders, and facilitating development of a ‘pharmacy federation’ to enable commissioning of services at population level. Evaluating the leadership development programme will help us understand what impact and differences our leads are making in their day to day role and what else we need to change in order to increase quality of care and service provision through our pharmacies.
